From Repairing Bikes to Scaling SaaS: Cassy Aite's Journey

Survival to Scale: Managing Catastrophic Shifts in B2B SaaS - ep. #032

Early Entrepreneurial Spirit

Cassy Aite's entrepreneurial journey began at just 12 years old. He and his brother started their first business repairing bicycles in Ottawa, Canada. Cassy recalls, "I had friends who, you know, their bikes would break down. They'd have issues with them. And I thought, you know, it was pretty fun to fix them." > I had friends who, you know, their bikes would break down. They'd have issues with them. And I thought, you know, it was pretty fun to fix them. — Cassy Aite This early experience fueled his passion for business and set the stage for his future ventures.

Transition to Tech

After gaining a degree in business with a specialization in finance, Cassy ventured into the tech industry. Inspired by the potential of technology to scale businesses, he co-founded Hopyear with his brother. Initially, Hopyear focused on delivering snacks to office kitchens, a service that quickly gained traction and expanded to include office supplies. "We went from 10K a month to 80K," Cassy recalls, highlighting their rapid growth.

Navigating a Crisis

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented a significant challenge, with Hopyear's revenue plummeting from 220K to nearly zero. Cassy and his team saw this as an opportunity to pivot. They leveraged technology to create a global rewards platform, allowing companies to send prepaid cards to employees and clients worldwide. "We basically make it easy for you to send money around the world to your employees or clients or partners in 60-plus countries," Cassy explains. > We basically make it easy for you to send money around the world to your employees or clients or partners in 60-plus countries. — Cassy Aite

Embracing Remote Work

Cassy's experience with remote work began when he was operating Hopyear from Germany. Initially skeptical about remote work, the pandemic forced a shift in perspective. "We were more productive. We were getting more done," Cassy notes. > We were more productive. Launching PostBeam

Building on their success with Hopyear, Cassy and his brother launched PostBeam, a platform designed to optimize B2B social selling on LinkedIn. "PostBeam is everything that we imagined that we needed to exist to help you grow your business on LinkedIn," Cassy states. This new venture is gaining traction, with a growing number of companies using the platform to enhance their social media presence.

Cassy Aite's story is a testament to the power of adaptability and resilience in the face of challenges. His journey from a young entrepreneur repairing bikes to leading two innovative companies provides inspiration for anyone looking to turn obstacles into opportunities.
